Cresotech
Applications
Products: PocketPoint, PocketSafe and
Convert-it
Developer: Cresotech (http://www.cresotech.com/index.htm)
Cresotech, a company specializing in desktop utility software
is now offering three useful applications for your PocketPC.
| |
- PocketSafe:
PocketSafe provides secure data
storage on your PocketPC. The application is very similar to the
already popular eWallet and CodeWallet. |

Among the
different types of data that you can enter, PocketSafe will record Bank
Accounts, Contacts, Credit Cards, and many more. You will then have the
option of individually locking each entry. eWallet does not allow you to
do this but rather you can lock each category individually!
PocketSafe user interface is simple but efficient. Each category is
customized, and you still can enter additional information in the note
section! There are also two nice features that need to be mentioned.
First is the customized category option. This will allow you to create
your own category(ies) and the appropriate fields. It reminded me of of
HanDBase, but with added security! The next option that I want to
mention is the ability to change the background or the color of the
program. In the pictures taken above and below, I used one background
theme that came with convert-it! You may also choose your own bmp or a
plain color. Nice touch! Finally, PocketSafe comes with a desktop
companion, DesktopSafe. Though the version that I tested was the "lite",
I appreciated the same kind of friendly user interface. Maybe just a
touch too simplistic for my taste! In the future version I'd like to see
an option to import contacts from your PIM, something that you currently
won't be able to do! PocketSafe is definitely a nice application to
safely store your personal information, especially for beginners or
simply people looking for a quick and easy solution. It's attractive
price of $19.00 makes it the cheapest on the market, though if you'd
like to get the DesktopSafe Pro, you'll have to spend a little more
($26.00 for the bundle).

- PocketPoint:
Though it's name might be
misleading, this graphic application has found its place on my
PocketPC. It will allow you to run slide shows on your PPC. I
found it very similar to Applian Picture Perfect though once again
the user interface is very well designed. The application is just
a snap to use, and will search the selected folders for any
pictures. It will display the selected pictures at a set interval.
The different options provided are useful, letting you adjust the
time interval between each slide, the location of the picture
folder, full screen presentation... |

You'll
also be able to change the background and text color, and there is a
skin option for full customization. If you choose to loop the
presentation, it will automatically restart, but you may also select the
shuffle option to display pictures randomly. Oh, I almost forgot, you
can choose your language (currently only English and German are
available but this is just a start!) Sold for $22, this application is slightly more expensive than the
Applian version, but its simplicity makes it a great product for those
looking for a quick way to run slide shows. You'll also be able to
import PowerPoint presentations (when saved under gif, jpeg, or other
graphic file format) and run them on your PPC!!

- Convert-it:
This one has to be my favorite! It is
a winner, big time. There are currently several unit converter
programs for PPC, but this has to be the best! There is nothing
less than 22 different types of units of measurement! I was
previously using Unit-Converter, but Convert-it has replaced it on
my iPAQ! |

Not only
can you use this app to convert absolutely anything you can imagine
(forces, concentration, dry volumes and so on and on...), but it
also looks good and simple enough that even your 10 year old could find
his way around it!! Each category has its own background image (nice
touch). You also have a "custom" option that will let you personalize
the conversions that you need!!! Convert-it is currently sold for
$15, falling within the very respectable price of applications of the
same type!! If you're like me and constantly need to figure out what a
meter square is in inches square, or even what a pound per foot cube is
in gram per centimeter cube, then you can't pass on this useful
application!!!!

I also
wanted to mention the registration process for these three applications.
You won't need to directly enter the registration code onto the PPC but
rather on your desktop while the PocketPC is in its cradle (sync)! It
makes it completely hassle free and takes only seconds!! Nice work Cresotech!!!!
Finally,
I want to thank Vadim Ortikov, Sales Director at Cresotech
for sending me these programs. |
