Introduction

Cresotech, who makes some very good utility programs, developed a useful program called PocketSafe. This program was designed to be a secure storage space for all your important data on your pocket pc. Instead of remembering many passwords for your internet sites, and remembering important numbers, all you need is to remember one password and you have access to everything.

The Program

PocketSafe allows you to store data in many different files. You can have a file for your information, a file for your spouse, a file for your work, etc. Within each file, you have categories to sort the information in. The categories are: Bank Accounts, Contacts, Credit Card, Email Account, ID Documents, and Notes. The categories have pre-set fields for your information.

To access this information, you enter a password. This allows total protection of your data. There are three levels of security. The first allows your PDA device to be password protected. The second offers password protection of your saved file. The third allows password protection for each entry within your file. This program is so well protected that if you lose your password, there is nothing anybody can do to get you in.

The Pros

PocketSafe is secure. Probably the most secure I have seen for this type of program. It is also very easy to use. Graphically it is pleasing to the eyes and you can change the color and bitmap to personalize it. This program delivers exactly what it promises.

The Cons

PocketSafe is not customizable. You are limited to the fields that it offers. For instance, I wanted to save my daughter’s Immigration data in this program, but none of the basic categories fit my requirements. I had to put her information in other fields that were designed for other information. This is not a big problem, but one that I should not have to contend with.

PocketSafe costs $19.00. For pocketpc programs, that is rather expensive.

Conclusion

Though PocketSafe has competition for this type of utility program, I do like it and would rate it higher if the fields were customizable and if it were about $5.00 cheaper. That being said, I still think it is an extremely useful utility and give it an eight.
