A LAN in your pocket
By: Jørgen Sundgot, 30.08.01 10:18 GMT

If you just can't live without access to your LAN, Cresotech's PocketLANce might be for you - providing full access to Windows Network resources from a Pocket PC near you.

For network engineers, and also the increasing number of people who control small subnetworks at work or perhaps a network setup at home, the shared resources is always the most important reason to build one - be it shared Internet access, a printer, a storage unit or just about anything else that can be connected to a network. Until now, accessing these resources on Pocket PCs has only been possible as a result of complicated and technical tweaking procedures.

Cresotech's new PocketLANce aims to solve this problem, featuring built-in resource management for LAN networks that allows you to access and control such resources straight from the palm of your hand. With PocketLANce, users should be able to locate, retrieve and move or copy network files via a conventional ActiveSync connection, a network card or even through RAS or DUN connections through modems or mobile phones.

Different network access rights and security levels are supported, and the application integrates with the File Explorer to show all LAN resources in a single tree structure. PocketLANce also supports both ARM, MIPS and SH3 CPUs, which means that no Pocket PC users are left out of the loop.
